trekhd30@msn.comI am a 37 year old engaged adoptive mother of two who is persueing a Master's Degree. I grew up on both coasts and came to Wyoming for college and fell in love with the Cowboy state and decided to stay.
I have loved British television since Faulty Towers. When I was eight my babysitter was watching this show with a dude with a goofy grin wearing an excedingly long scarf. I fell in love with the Doctor through Tom Baker, but when my PBS channel aired him. It was so out of sequence that Sara Jane was there one week then Leela and some times the ladies would switch the next story. It wasn't until Peter Davison that the stories proceeded cronologically.
The wonderfully irreverent show Buffy: the Vampire Slayer was one of the first to feature a multi-layered female lead that was a balanced woman, tough but vulnerable. Her Watcher, Rupert Giles, played by the wonderful Anthony Stewart Head, was one of the first characters that was all man and still was able to work for a woman. I am talking television land here folks. Up and till this show there was no show that had a smart, strong, agile, female lead without it being a partnership. Although I ship Buffy and Giles it was the first show where the main two characters did not have a romantic relationship. Even Scully had Mulder, and that character broke the ground for the development of the female characters in television.
Without these two ground breaking shows we would not have shows like Bones and the Closer.
